Members of the medical and nursing staff and workers at Al-Nini Hospital in Tripoli celebrated "World Obesity Day." They gathered at the hospital entrance wearing yellow clothing, yellow ties, or any other items representing the symbol of the disease, holding banners for global awareness of the dangers of obesity.
Dr. Elias Bitar, the hospital's medical director, confirmed that Al-Nini Hospital participated in this event as it is one of the primary hospitals where the most surgical operations for obesity treatment have been performed in Lebanon over the decades, thanks to the general surgery department led by Dr. Mustafa Aloush, in addition to the highly advanced endocrinology specialty in the hospital that focuses on medical treatment for obesity.
He noted that morbid obesity exposes patients to the risk of high blood pressure, blockage of the brain and heart arteries, gall bladder diseases, diabetes, joint inflammation, respiratory issues, high cholesterol and fat levels in the blood, certain types of cancer, central sleep apnea, and more, asserting that "the hospital provides the best medical care according to advanced global standards and is always at the service of patients in the north in general and Tripoli in particular."
Aloush mentioned that "weight is related to height, and when it exceeds by 40 to 70%, serious treatment for obesity is sought, whether medical, psychological, or through exercise, with surgery being the last option. It is important that patients do not come just because they are dissatisfied with their appearance, but rather think of treating obesity to improve their health conditions."
