Israeli Official: Disturbance at Ben Gurion Airport Originates from Syria and Lebanon

An Israeli official announced to the official broadcasting authority "Kan" that the disturbance in GPS positioning devices at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv is "caused by entities from Syria and Lebanon." After the Airports Authority revealed in a message on Wednesday that Israel is facing ongoing disturbances from seemingly unknown sources outside the country, the official confirmed that "the unknown entities are Syria and Lebanon."

"Kan" reported that this is a phenomenon that has existed in recent years, but the occurrences have increased in recent months, although the disturbances have not caused damage to flight operations, as planes have been equipped with additional navigation tools. Pilots in airline companies have faced severe GPS disturbances in aircraft preparing to land at Ben Gurion Airport in recent years. In 2019, there were also interruptions in GPS reception in Israel, at which time the Airports Authority acknowledged the malfunction and claimed that "the disruption does not endanger the safety of the aircraft or the flight."
