Five Syrian Ministers on UK Sanctions List

The British government has included several ministers and officials from the Syrian military judiciary on its sanctions lists, among them several ministers currently serving in Prime Minister Hussein Arnous's government, due to their involvement in "atrocities committed by the Syrian regime." The sanctions targeted active ministers in Hussein Arnous's government, including the Minister of Information Boutros Halak, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Imad al-Din al-Munjed, the Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Firas Qaddour, the Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Ali Mohsen Abdul Karim, and the Minister of Industry Abdul Qader Jukhdar.

According to a statement from the British Foreign Office, the sanctions also included the military prosecutor in the field military court in Syria, Mohammed Kanjo, whom London considers primarily responsible for issuing thousands of death sentences and long prison terms for detainees. Additionally, the sanctions extended to the military public prosecutor in Aleppo and former deputy director of military judiciary administration judge Yazan al-Homs, attributed to crimes committed against civilians and military personnel following the outbreak of the Syrian revolution, and against activists involved in peaceful protests in Syria.

Under the sanctions, individuals listed in the new list are prohibited from traveling to the UK, and all their assets and properties within its territory are frozen.
