Saudi authorities have decided to refer the guardian of a student who is absent from school for 20 days without an excuse to the Public Prosecution for investigation under the Child Protection Law. This procedure applies to students whose absences reach 20 days or more without justification. The student's guardian will be referred to the Public Prosecution, which will in turn send the complete investigation and prosecution file to the Algerian court. The judge has the right to issue a penal sentence of imprisonment for the guardian for a suitable duration if neglect regarding the student's absence is proven.
The relevant judicial authorities base this summons on Article 23 of the Child Protection Law. The prosecution considers causing students to drop out of education as a form of abuse and neglect that necessitates accountability under the Child Protection Law. Additionally, the prosecution emphasizes the parents' responsibility to create suitable conditions for their children’s education, assist them in learning, and protect them from various deviant behaviors. According to Saudi media, more than 6 million male and female students from general education, along with approximately 1,360,000 students from higher education and technical and vocational training, returned to their schools and educational institutions across all regions and provinces of the Kingdom, according to "Russia Today."
