The lawyer for imprisoned former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, revealed that his client was deprived of a public trial on Monday. A higher court had ordered this trial after the government presented reports indicating threats to Khan's life. The lawyer stated that the special court handling the case announced that Khan's trial for leaking state secrets would be held in prison, but it would be open to the media and the public. The court mentioned that the prison trial would resume again on Friday. The trial has been conducted in prison since charges were formally issued against Khan last month. The Islamabad High Court ruled last week that holding Khan's trial inside the prison for security reasons was illegal and ordered a resumption of the trial in public court. The latest charges against Khan relate to a classified cable sent by Pakistan's ambassador to the United States to Islamabad last year, with Khan being accused of leaking it.
