The Palestinian news agency (Wafa) reported that "Israeli forces killed a Palestinian intelligence officer today, Monday, during clashes in the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank." The Israeli army, in an earlier statement, said that "its forces came under heavy fire from Palestinians while trying to arrest suspects in Jenin and responded by shooting at the gunmen." The Fatah movement, led by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, identified the officer as "Ashraf Sheikh Ibrahim," adding that he was killed "while confronting the aggression and incursion of the occupation into the city of Jenin." The Ministry of Health announced his death, saying he "succumbed to injuries from Israeli occupation fire in Jenin early Monday, having been hit by two explosive bullets, one in the abdomen that caused liver fragmentation, and the other in the chest that penetrated the lung." In another part of the West Bank, Jewish settlers opened a religious school today, Monday, in an area that has drawn criticism from the United States, which met with Palestinian condemnation.
