The Iranian police announced the resumption of patrols to punish women who do not wear hijabs in public spaces, a number that has been increasing, following the death of Mahsa Amini ten months ago. This shift comes after the Iranian regime has started implementing new methods to punish those defying strict dress codes, including legal actions and depriving them of social rights.
The spokesman for the police, Saeed Montazeri Mahdi, stated, "Starting today, the police will conduct patrols by car and on foot to warn and punish women who unfortunately do not comply with the orders and continue to defy the dress codes."
Photos and videos shared on social media in recent days show female police officers in chadors warning women without hijabs and arresting them.
In recent months, Iranian authorities have installed cameras on the streets to monitor non-hijab wearers before taking legal action against them. The Iranian police have also filed several cases against some actresses accused of "committing the crime of removing the hijab in public."
It is reported that the punishment for a non-hijab-wearing girl in Iran will be "a month of corpse washing in a mortuary in Tehran."
