The distinguished Jaafari Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Qablan stated in a statement, "UNIFIL in the south should be a force for justice and national accountability only." Qablan said, "The role of UNIFIL is welcome to the extent that it serves Lebanon's national sovereignty. Beyond this limit, any violation of its role in our national calculations is prohibited and will be met with resistance; it is akin to suicide. Any adventure under any nationality or pretext will be faced with the fists of our people, who understand the meaning of freedom, sovereignty, and independence."
