Serbian Novak Djokovic defeated Italian Jannik Sinner 6-3, 6-3 to claim the year-end men's tennis championship for a record seventh time on Sunday. This victory avenges Djokovic's loss to Sinner in the group stage, making him the most successful player in the tournament's history with seven titles, surpassing Swiss Roger Federer.
In the first set, the world number one lost only two points on serve and, after breaking his opponent's serve in the fourth game, the competition became one-sided. At one point, Djokovic scored 14 consecutive points against the world number four before Sinner briefly slowed Djokovic's momentum, a player who has won 24 Grand Slam titles.
Sinner managed to avoid losing his serve for a second time before having chances to break back in the sixth game, but he could not capitalize on those. Djokovic missed break point opportunities that could have allowed him to lead 5-2 due to some errors. Fans tried to rally support for Sinner, but Djokovic forged ahead to secure the win after Sinner committed a double fault on serve. Djokovic now surpasses retired Roger Federer, becoming the most successful player in the tournament's history.
