Burnley, competing in the English Premier League, announced on Wednesday that they have signed Swiss forward Mohammed Zaki Almandouni from Basel on a five-year deal, although financial details were not disclosed. The 22-year-old Almandouni was the top scorer in the UEFA Europa Conference League last season with 7 goals. He also netted 12 goals in the Swiss league and scored five goals in five matches with the national team during the Euro qualifiers. Burnley's coach, Vincent Kompany, stated in a statement: "We have been following him closely for a long time. Zaki is a top-class striker. He creates a lot of goals and scores many himself. He is an excellent player with great talent and a fantastic work ethic. He works very hard and we look forward to working with him. He is a great talent." Almandouni is the fifth signing made by Burnley ahead of their return to the top flight.
