Tunisia: Journalist Ziad Al-Hani Detained in

Lawyer Ayachi Al-Hamami announced in a media statement from the courthouse in Tunis that "the public prosecution has ordered the detention of journalist Ziad Al-Hani today, Monday." He added that the prosecution scheduled a hearing for January 10 to address the case concerning charges of insulting others via social media. The Tunisian Journalists' Syndicate, for its part, called on "all journalists and all free forces in Tunisia" to participate in a protest this morning in front of the primary court in Tunis to demand Al-Hani's release. They stated that his detention is a "blatant violation of the legal procedures governing the prosecution of journalists," according to a statement issued on Saturday.
