Minister of Energy in the caretaker government, Walid Fiad, stated that "the rejection of the fuel ship by Prime Minister Najib Mikati represents a loss in the ongoing implementation of the emergency electricity plan, knowing that the cost of private generators is higher." He emphasized that "the tender for the ship anchored in the sea was approved by the Public Procurement Authority."
In a press conference, Fiad explained, "We considered that silence is a sign of approval, which is why we signed the contract related to the fuel ship anchored in the sea with the company. The ship arrived after a month and a half of reluctance to open the credit letter." He noted that today they communicated with "Coral" to cancel the contract or the shipment, and after negotiations, they managed to cancel it without incurring any costs.
Fiad insisted that "after all that happened with the Coral ship case, I take full responsibility and I am committed to the plan to increase electricity supply and ensure electricity at a lower cost than that of generators."
