New American Sanctions Regarding Cybercrime

On Thursday, the United States added six individuals and nine companies, including firms from Russia, to its sanctions lists related to "combating cybercrime." The U.S. Treasury stated in a release: "The sanctions included Russian citizens, as well as three citizens from Yemen, Lebanon, and Syria, and a Lebanese citizen who holds Russian, Syrian, and Turkish citizenship." It added: "Restrictions were imposed on the Russian company Rostroy, as well as companies registered in the UK, Yemen, Lebanon, the UAE, and Turkey." The U.S. Treasury alleges that the two Russians listed, Ruslan Berytyatko, referred to in documents as an employee of the Federal Security Service, and Andrey Korinets, participated in hacking activities targeting individuals and legal entities in the U.S. and the UK, in addition to important U.S. government networks.
