Mexico Demands Biden to Lift Sanctions on Cuba and Venezuela

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has urged his American counterpart Joe Biden to lift U.S. sanctions on Venezuela and Cuba. According to a statement from the Mexican presidency, "López Obrador asked Biden in a phone call to remove the sanctions on Venezuela and lift the blockade on Cuba to reduce the flow of migrants to the United States from these countries." The Mexican president noted that "any law adopted in this context that ignores the reasons for the migration phenomenon and does not address them is doomed to remain ink on paper." The White House indicated that "the two parties agreed to continue their fruitful partnership in addressing migration challenges."
