Title: Morocco: One Dead and Three Injured in Four Explosions in Western Sahara

Moroccan authorities announced that one person was killed and three others injured in four explosions in the city of Smara in Western Sahara, which is under Moroccan control, on Saturday. The authorities stated in a statement that the explosions caused damage to two homes, without further details. Rabat considers Western Sahara to be Moroccan territory, but the Polisario Front, backed by Algeria, seeks to establish an independent state there. The Polisario Front announced in November 2020 the resumption of its armed struggle for control over Western Sahara. The United Nations describes most of the ongoing fighting there as "low intensity," with most occurring in the uninhabited eastern part of the security wall erected by the Moroccan kingdom. Morocco claims that autonomy is the most it can offer as a political solution in the region. The Polisario Front and its ally Algeria demand the establishment of an independent state there. The United Nations Security Council urges both parties to reach an acceptable solution.
