"For a Short Time Only"... Trump Accepts Taking the McCarthy Position

Former U.S. President Donald Trump made an unusual statement regarding the removal of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated that he would accept taking the position of Speaker of the House for a short time. He added that by assuming this role, he would act as a "unifier" for the currently divided Republican Party until they reach a decision on who will take over after McCarthy. He stated, "I have been asked to speak as a unifier because I have many friends in Congress." He said, "If the Republicans do not hold a vote and ask me to consider assuming the speakership until they nominate someone else for a longer term, because I am a presidential candidate, I will do it." Trump continued, "They asked me if I could take the position for a short time for the Republican Party so they can find a solution. I am not doing it because I want it but because it is necessary, and they need to make their decision."
