North Korea Fires Over 60 Rounds Off the Korean Peninsula

The South Korean military indicated today, Saturday, that "the North Korean army fired over 60 rounds near a disputed maritime border with Seoul." The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff stated in a report: "Artillery fire was launched in the vicinity of the northwest of Yeonpyeong Island between 1600 and 1700 today, local time (0700-0800 GMT)." The agency strongly urged North Korea to cease actions that threaten peace on the Korean Peninsula and escalate tensions. This follows North Korea firing over 200 artillery shells yesterday in the same area, amidst rising tensions between the two sides.
