President Michel Suleiman urged the lawmakers to expedite the election of a president, as it is the essential pathway to start the process of rescuing what remains of the nation's sovereignty, the dignity of its institutions, and the health of its economy. After meeting with Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rahi in Diman, he pointed out that the election process should not be tied to any dialogue or other conditions, "after the results of previous dialogue sessions and their decisions, most notably the (Baabda Declaration), were undermined, as well as the national dialogue body and all its members, including the President of the Republic and the Speakers of the Parliament and the Council of Ministers." He also mentioned that the symbolism of the place where the dialogue took place for dozens of days and hours, namely the October 22 Hall, or the Hall of Independence in the Baabda Palace, was also compromised. Suleiman wished that the French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian would address the authorities he meets with about the reason for not implementing the "Baabda Declaration," to which they committed, and their readiness to implement it as a starting point for any new dialogue, "otherwise it is in vain."
