Completion of the Second Largest Prisoner Exchange in Yemen

The International Committee of the Red Cross announced that the second largest prisoner exchange between the warring parties in Yemen was successfully completed today, Sunday, involving the exchange of nearly 900 detainees.

The committee stated in a statement that they "successfully concluded the release operations after three days," considering this operation a "positive step towards peace and reconciliation in Yemen." The International Red Cross and the Yemen Red Crescent collaborated to return around 900 former detainees to their families.

On Sunday, the Houthi group stated that "arrangements are underway for a new round of negotiations with the internationally recognized government in May to discuss the release of 1,400 prisoners."

This is the second largest operation of its kind since the war broke out eight years ago and represents an important step in building trust and establishing peace in the country.

The two sides agreed during talks held in Switzerland last month to release 887 detainees and will meet again in May to discuss the release of more.
