Unlike the stalled presidential election file, which awaits a resolution both internally and externally, the government file has reignited with considerable urgency following the tour of General Security Director Major General Abbas Ibrahim among the relevant parties involved in the government formation. Developments are expected in the coming days regarding this matter before the term of President Michel Aoun ends.
In the meantime, the Parliament convened yesterday and re-elected its bureau and committees, with no significant changes except for minor adjustments to appease change MPs, from whom MP Michel Douaihy has withdrawn. The Parliament approved a series of bills, including banking secrecy.
Regarding the formation, informed sources stated that "there is a revival of the file, discussions are ongoing, and ideas are being exchanged, but there are no tangible results so far, and efforts continue to achieve positive outcomes." The sources pointed out to "Anbaa" that "the designated Prime Minister Najib Mikati will not accept President Michel Aoun's request to change the six Christian ministers, as this demand is currently obstructing the formation. However, a government that reflects political disputes and power struggles is not what is needed," referring to Aoun's demands.
The sources noted that updates will take place on the current governmental formation and discussions are underway regarding whether the "Strong Lebanon" bloc would grant confidence to the government if it is formed. But to what extent can this newfound positivity be relied upon, and will the coming hours be decisive? Especially since deadlines are tightening before the end of the term and President Aoun's departure from Baabda Palace.
