Flags were lowered at United Nations offices across Asia on Monday, and staff members were invited to stand in a minute of silence for their colleagues who lost their lives in the war between Israel and Hamas. The blue and white UN flag was lowered at 09:30 local time in Bangkok, Tokyo, and Beijing following the UN's announcement of a "significant number of casualties" in the "bombing" of the United Nations Development Programme headquarters in Gaza. Footage captured by AFP on Sunday showed a gap in the courtyard of a school run by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza. UNRWA announced on Friday that more than a hundred of its staff had been killed in the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of the war.
