Resumption of Turkish League Matches Following Assault on Referee

The President of the Turkish Football Federation announced today, Wednesday, that matches in all tiers of the local league will resume next Tuesday, after being suspended for a week due to an incident where the president of Ankara Gucu assaulted a referee on the field. Earlier today, the chief physician stated, "The referee who was punched by the president of one of the Turkish Super League clubs on the field has been discharged from the hospital and is suffering from swelling in his eye but has no other health issues." Last Monday, at the end of a match in the Turkish Super League, referee Halil Umut Meler was punched in the face and then kicked after falling to the ground.
