The Chinese embassy in Japan stated today, Sunday, that it "strongly opposes" a statement by Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa in which she congratulated the newly elected President of Taiwan, Lai Ching-te. Kamikawa's congratulations were made in a statement published on the Japanese Foreign Ministry's website yesterday, Saturday, following the announcement of the presidential election results in Taiwan.
