Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri reaffirmed today, Thursday, that "the doors of the parliament will not be closed to a session for the election of a president." In a statement issued by his media office, Berri said, "If at least two serious candidacies for the presidency are announced, they will find that the doors of the parliament are open," pointing out that anything contrary is "disruption and threats that are of no benefit and will not work, especially with the Speaker of the Council."
Berri received Army Commander General Joseph Aoun earlier today at the second presidential headquarters in Ain el-Tineh, where they discussed security conditions and military institution matters. Sources informed "Warda" that during the meeting, there was an agreement to sign a decree promoting officers from the rank of Colonel to Brigadier General, specifically for the classes of 1994, 1995, and 1996. Berri also received media figure Thaer Abbas, who presented him with his new publication, "Modern Turkey."
