Besiktas, competing in the Turkish Super League, announced on Sunday the hiring of former Portugal coach Fernando Santos as their new manager. The 69-year-old Portuguese coach recently managed Poland but was dismissed while the team struggled to qualify for Euro 2024. Santos previously coached Portugal but ended his tenure after losing to Morocco in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup. He led the team to victory in the 2016 Euro Championship. Santos, who has also previously coached Porto, Sporting, Benfica, and the Greek national team, will replace Riza Calimbay at Besiktas. The team is currently in sixth place in the league with 29 points from 18 matches and will visit fifth-placed Rizespor on Tuesday.
