British Minister of State for Security, Tom Tugendhat, confirmed today, Monday, his country's readiness to support the Iraqi security forces and provide them with modern technologies. According to a statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister's media office, Tugendhat's remarks came during his meeting with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani. The statement indicated that Al-Sudani discussed with Tugendhat, who is visiting Iraq, ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields, particularly in security, military matters, combating terrorism, and fighting corruption. Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of cooperation with the British side in combating transnational crimes, especially those related to smuggling, human trafficking, and drug trafficking. He also stressed the significance of bilateral cooperation to "recover funds and arrest individuals sought by the Iraqi judiciary in corruption cases," warning that the threat of corruption "does not stop at Iraq but expands to threaten all countries worldwide," according to the statement.
