Iran's Shura Council President, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, met with his Egyptian counterpart, Hanif Jabali, in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Wednesday, during the 9th meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of BRICS nations. Both sides reaffirmed the necessity of enhancing relations between Iran and Egypt and increasing their bilateral cooperation.
Qalibaf expressed his satisfaction with this meeting, highlighting the importance of Egypt as one of the major Islamic countries, which has played an active role throughout Islamic history. He emphasized the need to bolster relations between West Asia and North Africa. He stated, "The parliamentary assembly of the BRICS group provides a great opportunity for Islamic countries, including Iran and Egypt, as they are two significant nations in the region, to strengthen their relations and regional cooperation."
The Egyptian official also expressed his contentment with the meeting, noting that everything his Iranian counterpart said resonated with him, showcasing the insightful perspective of the Iranian Islamic Shura Council President. He stressed the need to make efforts to enhance cooperation and relations between Tehran and Cairo within the BRICS framework and to increase efforts in various fields.
At the end of the meeting, the Egyptian Parliament President extended an official invitation to the Iranian Shura Council President to visit Cairo to strengthen the ties between the two countries, while Qalibaf invited his Egyptian counterpart to visit Iran. This meeting follows a period of diplomatic activities in recent months aimed at elevating relations between Tehran and Cairo after decades of estrangement.
