Chinese Foreign Minister: Equal Dialogue with the EU Requires Mutual Respect

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that equal dialogue between China and the European Union can only occur on the condition of mutual respect, according to the "Novosti" agency. During his meeting with representatives of EU diplomatic missions and diplomats from EU countries in Beijing today, he stated, "China and Europe possess their own unique cultural and historical characteristics, and each has its own paths and structures. We can only engage in equal dialogue and achieve joint progress by adhering to mutual respect." He noted that "China and the EU can only play a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability worldwide and in facing global challenges by committing to communication and coordination." He added that "over the past twenty years of the comprehensive strategic partnership, despite various difficulties, both sides have managed to maintain gradual development momentum and establish a model for comprehensive and multi-level exchanges and cooperation across various fields."
