After Losing Her Leg: Christina Assi Shares Her Painful Experience

Christina Assi is one of six journalists who were directly injured by Israeli shelling on the border with Lebanon. Since then, the 28-year-old has been confined to her bed at the American University of Beirut Medical Center after losing her right leg. The journalist, who requires a long treatment journey, told CNN: "There were seven journalists from different agencies, including Reuters and Al Jazeera, and we were in an open area. We were all wearing helmets and vests, just doing our job and covering the clashes."

She continued, "We maintained a safe distance from the front line, so we felt safe and secure." Christina confirmed that "there was neither Hamas nor Hezbollah around us; there was no one, just a group of journalists doing our work." She pointed out that the Israeli army attacked them "twice, not once, which led to the amputation of my leg, and now I have to stay in the hospital for a long time to recover a bit." An investigation by Reuters concluded that an Israeli army tank killed a journalist from the agency and injured six journalists in Lebanon on October 13 by firing two shells in rapid succession from inside occupied territory while the journalists were filming cross-border shelling.
