A source informed about the ongoing negotiations told Reuters on Wednesday that "Qatari mediators are attempting to negotiate an agreement between Hamas and Israel, which includes the release of approximately 50 civilian detainees from Gaza in exchange for a three-day ceasefire declaration." The source stated, "The agreement under discussion, coordinated with the United States, will also see Israel releasing some women and children from its prisons and increasing the amounts of humanitarian aid permitted to enter Gaza." The source added, "Hamas has agreed to the general principles of the agreement, but Israel has not yet agreed and is still negotiating the details." If the agreement is reached, it would mark the largest release of detainees held by Hamas since its attack on parts of Israel. It remains unclear how many Palestinian women and children Israel will release from its prisons as part of the discussed agreement.
