Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk will miss his team's upcoming match in the Premier League against Wolverhampton Wanderers after being suspended for an additional game due to his reaction following his red card against Newcastle United last month. The English Football Association stated that it also imposed a fine of £100,000 on the Dutch defender after he admitted to acting inappropriately.
In a statement, it added: "The defender admitted to acting inappropriately, using abusive words and insulting the match referee after being sent off in the 29th minute. The penalties were imposed by an independent disciplinary committee." Van Dijk received the red card after committing a foul against Swedish player Alexander Isak during the first half and appeared to protest to referee John Brooks before leaving the field.
