Three children and three adults were killed in a shooting at a private school in Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday, before the police killed the shooter. Nashville Police spokesperson Don Aaron reported that the shooter was armed with at least two semi-automatic rifles and a handgun, and she was 28 years old from Nashville.
President Biden stated from the White House, "We must do more to stop gun violence. It is tearing our communities apart. I again call on Congress to pass my assault weapons ban." Biden has repeatedly called for a new ban on assault weapons and stricter rules governing gun sales, measures that require approval from the Republican-controlled Congress.
Mass shooting incidents have become common in the United States; however, it is unusual for a woman to carry out such an attack. Only four out of 191 mass shootings since 1966 were committed by female attackers, according to a list from The Violence Project, a non-profit research center.
An active shooter event was reported at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr. The shooter was engaged by the MNPD and is deceased. Student reunification with parents was taking place at Woodmont Baptist Church, located at 2100 Woodmont Blvd.
Multiple law enforcement and other agencies were responding to the mass casualty event, with several children reported shot inside the school. Hale fired a number of rounds inside the Covenant Church/School building and was armed with three firearms and significant ammunition.
