Local media reported on Monday that Lionel Scaloni will remain the coach of Argentina until at least the end of the Copa América football tournament next summer, where the national team will defend its title. This news comes after a meeting between Argentine Football Association president Claudio Tapia and Scaloni to discuss the national team's upcoming friendly matches in China ahead of the continental tournament scheduled to take place from June 20 to July 14 in the United States. Reuters reached out to the Argentine Football Association for comment. Sports journalist Gaston Edul from the Argentine station (TyC Sports) commented on social media, "Lionel Scaloni will remain with the Argentina national team and will lead it to Copa América. This will surely be confirmed officially in the coming days." Scaloni had cast doubt on his future when Argentina defeated Brazil in the South American World Cup qualifiers, stating, "Moving forward is complicated, and continuing to win is complicated." The 45-year-old coach took charge of the team in 2018 and led Argentina to the Copa América title in 2021, their first major title since the 1986 World Cup, followed by their third World Cup title in Qatar the following year.
