Airstrike Kills 22 in Omdurman

The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced today, Saturday, that "22 people were killed and dozens injured in an airstrike carried out by the army on the city of Omdurman." The fighting has intensified since mid-April, with the army conducting air and artillery strikes after the Rapid Support Forces took control of large areas of Sudan’s capital Khartoum and the neighboring cities of Omdurman and Bahri.

The ongoing conflict, which mediation efforts have not yet managed to halt, threatens to plunge the country into wider civil war, potentially inviting internal and external interventions in the nation located between the Horn of Africa and the Sahel and Red Sea in East Africa. In recent days, fighting has focused on the city of Omdurman, where the western part of the city serves as a key supply route for the Rapid Support Forces, facilitating reinforcements from Darfur, their power base.

Strikes, including those conducted yesterday, targeted the government broadcasting complex in eastern Omdurman, while other strikes hit locations in southern and eastern Khartoum.
