Iranian media reported today, Saturday, that a commander in the Revolutionary Guard stated that "the Mediterranean may be closed if the United States and its allies continue to commit 'crimes' in Gaza," without clarifying how this would occur. The Tasnim news agency quoted Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi, Assistant Commander of the Revolutionary Guard for Coordinating Affairs, saying, "They will soon have to expect the closure of the Mediterranean, the Strait of Gibraltar, and other waterways." Iran supports the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) against Israel and accuses the United States of supporting what it describes as Israeli crimes in Gaza, where weeks of continuous bombardment have led to the deaths of thousands of Palestinians and the displacement of most of the population in the area.
