A Tunisian National Guard official, Hossam El-Din Jabali, announced that "at least five African migrants died after their boat capsized off Tunisia today, Thursday, while attempting to reach the shores of Italy." He added to Reuters that "the coast guard retrieved their bodies and rescued 44 other people from the same boat off the southern coastal city of Ghardaq."
