AC Milan, competing in Serie A, announced today (Thursday) that they have signed American forward Christian Pulisic from Chelsea for a four-year contract. The financial details were not disclosed, but British media reported that the Italian club paid Chelsea 20 million euros (22.41 million dollars) along with additional bonuses for the 24-year-old player’s services.
Regarding the transfer, Pulisic stated at a press conference: “The past few seasons with Chelsea have been tough; for various reasons, I didn’t get the opportunities I wanted in my previous team, but now I have a great chance to reach my highest level.”
Pulisic will wear the number 11 jersey, previously worn by Zlatan Ibrahimović, and acknowledged the significant responsibility that comes with it after the Swedish star's retirement. He said: “I won’t be able to fill the void. He is a legend. But it’s a new beginning, and I loved this number.”
Pulisic spent four seasons at Chelsea, participating in 145 matches, scoring 26 goals, and providing 21 assists. He helped Chelsea win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup in 2021. This move marks Pulisic’s addition to the long list of players who have left Chelsea after the club finished 12th in the Premier League last season, their worst position in nearly three decades.
He becomes the second player to leave the West London club for Milan after midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Pulisic is the fourth signing made by Milan coach Stefano Pioli during the current transfer window after backup goalkeeper Marco Sportiello from Atalanta, young striker Luka Romero from Lazio, and Loftus-Cheek.
