England Reaches Women's World Cup Final for the First Time

England reached the Women's World Cup final for the first time by defeating hosts Australia 3-1 on Wednesday, shattering Australian hearts and setting up a date with Spain in an all-European final. Ella Toone put England ahead with a stunning shot in the 36th minute, silencing the enthusiastic crowd of over 75,000 spectators, but Australia's captain Sam Kerr equalized with a phenomenal individual effort, sprinting relentlessly before launching an unstoppable shot from 25 meters into England's net in the 64th minute. However, Australia's defense failed to deal with a long ball just seven minutes later, allowing Lauren Hemp to put it in the goal. Kerr came close to equalizing again before Alessia Russo sealed the result for England with a third goal four minutes from time, sending the European champions to the final next Sunday.

England player Lucy Bronze said, "This is the one thing I have always wanted, which is to reach the World Cup final, and after being disappointed twice, I can't believe it," adding, "We all dreamed of being in the final and all family and friends booked to stay here until the final because they have believed in us all." She continued, "At the same time, it was wonderful to play against Australia in their own backyard. What a fantastic tournament for them as well." From the start, it was clear that the England team, led by Dutch coach Sarina Wiegman, had a specific plan to impose its physical rhythm on Australia, as England committed nine fouls in the first half to thwart their opponent's attacking attempts.
