English club Manchester City experienced a scare during the friendly match between Norway and the Faroe Islands on Thursday after Norwegian striker Erling Haaland injured his ankle. Haaland did not start the match and came on in the second half, only to suffer the injury in the final minutes of the game, which ended with Norway winning 2-0. It appeared that Haaland's new injury was a recurrence of the ankle injury that forced him to leave the match in which Man City defeated Bournemouth 6-1 in the Premier League days earlier.
This new injury comes just before Manchester City's anticipated clash against Liverpool next week in the Premier League. However, Norway's medical team was keen to downplay the severity of Haaland's injury. Norwegian national team doctor Ola Sand stated, "He (Haaland) suffered a slight sprain in his ankle, which has become somewhat weak. An ankle injury hurts a lot initially, but then the pain quickly subsides." He added, "Now he will receive some treatment, then rest, and we will see how he feels tomorrow morning (Saturday)."
Manchester City, currently leading the Premier League with 28 points, will face second-placed Liverpool (27 points) on November 25.
