Turkish drug crime teams in Erzurum province, located in the northeastern part of the country, announced that they managed to "arrest a smuggler of Iranian nationality who had hidden drug capsules in his stomach and intestines, totaling 95 capsules," according to local media reports. An X-ray conducted on the Iranian smuggler at a hospital in the province revealed the presence of foreign objects in his stomach and intestines, as mentioned by local news outlets that also addressed smuggling operations along the Iranian-Turkish border.
Authorities detained the smuggler after confirming that the substances he had ingested were drug capsules prohibited in the country. The Iranian, whose name was revealed only by its initials, identified as "F.S.," is set to be referred to the judiciary soon. The total amount of substances hidden in his stomach and intestines reached 603.35 grams of opium gum inside 78 capsules, and 111.35 grams of synthetic drugs inside 17 other capsules.
