The Maronite bishops, after their meeting chaired by Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai, expressed their rejection of "the exploitation of citizens' lives in the South" and hoped for "the enhancement of political and international atmospheres to implement Resolution 1701." They noted that "we are following the movement of the quintet committee with the hope of reaching a quick and positive conclusion and speeding up the election of a president for the republic." The bishops warned against "international and local attempts to pass a suspicious demarcation of the borders between Lebanon and Israel, devoid of any clear international guarantees, emphasizing that negotiations in this regard remain the prerogative of the president of the republic."
