Uzbekistan has reached the quarter-finals of the Asia Cup being held in Qatar, defeating Thailand 2-1 on Tuesday at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah. Uzbekistan's goals were scored by Azizbek Turkunboyev (37) and Abduzbek Fayzulayev (65), while Thailand's goal was netted by Supachok Sarachart (58).
Uzbekistan will face the defending champion and host nation, Qatar, on February 3 at Al Bayt Stadium. Qatar previously defeated Palestine 2-1 on Monday.
In the group stage, Uzbekistan had a scoreless draw with Syria and a 1-1 draw with Australia, along with a victory over India 3-0. Meanwhile, Thailand finished the group stage in second place behind Saudi Arabia without conceding any goals.
It is worth noting that Uzbekistan's best achievement in the tournament was reaching the semi-finals in the 2011 edition held in Qatar.
