After Completing the Demarcation... The Challenge Begins

The agreement on maritime border demarcation has been finalized following months of negotiations led by American mediator Amos Hochstein, after years of efforts by President Nabih Berri and the framework agreement that remained the foundational starting point for the current deal. Political sources emphasized, through "Al-Anbaa" electronic, that the challenge began today after signing the agreement and how Lebanon will deal with its national wealth and benefit from it, stressing the broad outlines, the most important of which are the establishment of the national company and the sovereign fund to protect Lebanon's oil from waste, corruption, and political allotment.

At the same time, the sources noted the position of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, who considered that the resistance had accomplished what was required of it with utmost precision, thanking the resistance members for fulfilling their duty. This, however, was ignored by Aoun in his appearance to announce Lebanon's approval of the demarcation agreement, as he did not mention any role for the party.

The sources did not rule out that Iran had a role in what was achieved; otherwise, Hezbollah would not have dealt with the file with such flexibility, to the extent that the Jaafari Mufti Ahmad Qabalan described what occurred as a significant shift in favor of Lebanon. A parliamentary source described what was achieved to "Al-Anbaa" electronic as important, but the key remains in the results and the method that Lebanon adopts to extract its oil and gas from the depths of the sea. It warned against continuing with the mentality that has been applied in the energy file, which cost the state treasury $45 billion, along with estimated interest of more than $5 billion, calling for the establishment of a sovereign fund as soon as extraction of gas from the heart of the sea begins.
