Body temperature can drop due to wet feet, leading to a weakened immune system and consequently various cardiovascular diseases. In an interview with "Gazeta.Ru," cardiovascular specialist Dr. Anastasia Fomicheva stated, "Of course, wet feet alone cannot cause heart problems. The primary cause of the disease is a viral or bacterial infection. However, hypothermia can weaken the immune system, allowing pathogens to enter the body, which can lead, for example, to the development of infectious endocarditis. This is an inflammatory disease of the endocardium (the inner lining of the heart) with the deposition of microorganisms on the heart valves."
According to the doctor, "viral myocarditis or inflammatory cardiomyopathy can also occur. The viral agent that penetrates the body damages the heart muscle cells, causing a local inflammatory response and triggering autoimmune processes." She noted that "wet feet and cracks in the skin are entry points for fungal infections, which can be a cause of myocarditis. Additionally, cooling of the legs and vasospasm can worsen the course of chronic arterial or venous insufficiency in the legs and provoke edema syndrome. To avoid such complications in the body, it is important to keep the feet warm."
