The Foreign Relations Office of the "Lebanese Forces" confirmed during a meeting with a parliamentary delegation from the "Renew Europe" group in the European Parliament in Ashrafieh that "the official French proposals regarding this file contradict the specifications that the Lebanese Forces party proposes for the upcoming president, which are based on sovereignty, reform, and rescue."
It emphasized that "the arrival of a president with these specifications is the first step to save the situation in Lebanon and to confront the obstruction by "Hezbollah" and its allies in the electoral sessions, aiming to bring their candidate to the presidency, as the party follows this strategy to seize democratic decision-making at every presidential challenge." Accordingly, the two parties agreed that "saving the presidency in Lebanon begins with practicing sound democracy."
The two parties also discussed the key issues currently being addressed in Lebanon concerning anti-corruption and reforms, with the Lebanese Forces stressing that "this file cannot be handled by a president representing the beliefs of "Hezbollah" and its allies or belonging to rejected and corrupt practices."
Additionally, the Forces team presented the issue of Syrian refugees, which heavily burdens the Lebanese people who can no longer bear its socio-economic implications, constituting one of the major factors contributing to the collapse of the situation in Lebanon.
For its part, the European parliamentary delegation expressed full understanding of the Lebanese Forces' proposals in all files, noting that "the European Parliament is preparing to make a decision regarding the situation in Lebanon in June, and the delegation is keen that the decision includes the most important aspirations and solutions demanded by the Lebanese people."
The delegation, representing the centrist line close to President Macron, included: "Former Romanian Prime Minister and Member of the European Parliament Dacian Cioloș, the person responsible for the Lebanese file in the European Union MP Christoph Grudler, Member of the French Foreign Affairs Committee MP Salima Yenbou, and Greek MP in the European Parliament Georgios Christos."
