Argentine Ángel Di María announced on Thursday that he will retire from international football after the "Copa América" tournament scheduled for the summer of 2024 in the United States. Di María wrote on his Instagram account, "With all the pain in my soul and the lump in my throat, I say goodbye to the most beautiful thing that has happened to me in my career."
The Copa América, which the Argentine national team currently holds the title for, will take place from June 20 to July 14, featuring 10 teams from South America and six from North America. The 35-year-old player, who currently plays for Benfica in Portugal and has previously played for Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus, added, "This will be the last time I wear the Argentina shirt."
Di María played his last match in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which ended in a 1-0 victory over Brazil last Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro.
