The important role of the family has increasingly gained the attention of the international community since the 1980s until today. Therefore, the United Nations announced the establishment of the International Year of the Family and International Family Day, affirming the crucial role of parents in raising children, to be celebrated annually worldwide on June 1. For children to develop holistically (aligning their growth with their personalities), it is essential to raise them in a nurturing family environment filled with love and understanding. According to reports prepared by the United Nations, parents are the primary caregivers and teachers to their children, preparing them for a productive and fulfilling life.
International Parents' Day, designated by the General Assembly in 2012, highly values parents' dedication to their children and the sacrifices they make throughout their lives to enhance this relationship. In June, UNICEF and its partners share expert advice and available resources designed to support caregivers and their families, including mental health guides related to various issues such as self-care for busy parents, supporting teenagers during tough times, and providing fun play ideas that aid in children's development while allowing parents to maximize their time with their children.
There is also a call to governments and companies to expand support for parenting and to create comprehensive facilitation avenues for all families. A series of audio programs (podcasts) produced by UNICEF examines the impact of COVID-19 on our lives, where global experts and parents discuss a wide range of topics. The programs offer realistic information, useful advice, and practical guidance on supporting children's growth in this new world.
