Gaza is witnessing another day of escalation and fighting on Wednesday, as the war in the region approaches its third month. The primary focus remains on the humanitarian suffering and catastrophic conditions experienced by the Palestinian people under Israeli bombardment, amid displacement and shortages of food, water, and medical supplies. In the latest developments, reports indicate that Israeli aircraft have carried out airstrikes in central Gaza and Khan Younis.
The Israeli army announced today in a statement that an officer was killed in the battles in Gaza. Israeli media noted that the officer's death raises the total military casualties since the start of the ground operation in the region to 175. The Israeli army confirmed last night that it was prepared for "all scenarios" following the killing of Hamas leader Saleh Al-Arouri in a strike targeting the Palestinian movement's office in the southern suburbs of Beirut, attributed by Lebanese security officials to Israel.
Army spokesperson Daniel Hagari stated in a press conference, "The army is on alert for both defense and offense. We are ready for all scenarios," without directly commenting on Al-Arouri's death. He added, "The most important thing we are saying tonight is that we are focused on fighting Hamas and continuing our focus on that."
Additionally, the World Health Organization has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and urgent measures to ensure the unhindered flow of aid. The organization condemned the bombardment that targeted a headquarters and hospital belonging to the Palestinian Red Crescent in Gaza, describing it as "unacceptable." The organization reported that many of the 14,000 displaced persons at Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Younis had left the hospital due to the strikes, and those remaining intend to leave.
