Ancy Attack: Children Improving... What About the Backpack Hero?

French President Emmanuel Macron reassured today, Friday, about the stability of the conditions of the two children who were stabbed by an attacker with a knife and sustained serious injuries in the mountainous town of Ancy, noting that doctors are optimistic about their recovery. Today, flowers were laid in the square where the attacker targeted small children. According to the French government, the attacker is a 31-year-old Syrian refugee.

Despite the shock, there was widespread praise for a young man walking between the cathedrals of France who happened to be at the scene and attempted to intercept the attacker before chasing him. The French media dubbed the young Catholic, who is on a walking tour of the cathedrals, the "backpack hero" for resisting the assailant who stabbed several children in a park in the town of Ancy.

Henry (24 years old) was near the Le Paquier park when he saw someone attacking children while their mother desperately tried to protect them yesterday, Thursday. A video showed Henry trying to stop the attacker with one of his bags, chasing him in the square, and throwing a bag at him.

Most French people currently know only his first name, which is all that appears on his social media accounts. The police have not provided any more details. French media referred to Henry as the "backpack hero." His only comment on his Facebook page so far has been, "Pray for the children, I'm okay."

Radio Europe 1 reported that "Henry will meet President Emmanuel Macron later today." Four children and two retirees were stabbed in a knife attack that took place in the quiet French town of Ancy yesterday, Thursday. Authorities stated that the main suspect is a Syrian refugee.
