Serbia qualified for the 2024 UEFA European Championship after drawing 2-2 against Bulgaria at home in Group 7 on Sunday, while Montenegro lost 3-1 to Hungary. Serbia began the day in second place in the group, two points ahead of Montenegro and two points behind Hungary, which had already qualified. Serbia needed just one point to secure qualification even if Montenegro won in Budapest, thanks to their head-to-head record.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a header from Milos Veljkovic, but Bulgaria came back in the second half with two goals from Georgi Rusiev in the 59th minute and Kiril Despodov ten minutes later. Serbia equalized in the 82nd minute with a close-range header from Sedjan Babic, easing the tension among the fans.
In the other match, Montenegro took the lead in the 36th minute through Slobodan Rubičić, but Hungary's Dominik Szoboszlai scored two goals within two minutes in the second half, and Adam Nagy added another in stoppage time, making the final score 3-1. Hungary tops the group with 18 points, followed by Serbia with 14 points, while Montenegro sits in third place with 11 points and failed to qualify for the playoff.
